EU presses UK to align tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles

Brussels is pushing London to match EU duties on Chinese-built battery electric vehicles, which can reach 45.3% in total. Chinese brands have reached approximately 15% of UK new vehicle registrations in H1 2026; across the first eight months of 2026, the five largest Chinese groups held 9.
